First Arab joins the Israeli cabinet
The Israel government has voted to appoint an Arab Muslim to the cabinet – for the first time in the history of the Jewish state. Raleb Majadele will be minister with no portfolio. Majadele, aged 53, said that his appointment into office would give Israeli Arabs a sense of belonging. Labor Party leader Amir Peretz said it was an historic step towards equality for Israeli Arabs, who make up around 20% of Israel’s population. Let’s just hope this was the right step to peace for the two fighting cultures
