Although supporting non-profits is important, you’re correct that you could be wasting a lot of ad views—and a lot of money—by not replacing those public service ads (PSAs) with an alternate ad that generates revenue.Google displays PSAs if your account is still so new that Google hasn’t determined what your pages are about, or if there’s no other ad inventory to display. Filling that space with an alternate ad of your choosing is a great way to ensure you are fully monetizing your web site for every visitor.

The process isn’t difficult and involves uploading an image to your server (such as an affiliate ad, an alternate PSA of your choosing or an ad promoting your site) that will be served automatically by Google when the need arises. I’ll go ahead and break down the process in 9 easy steps

Select an image ad size that is the same size as the ad you want to replace. If the ad size you want to replace is a 468×60 banner, make sure your replacement ad is sized 468×60.

Create images for each ad size you want to replace. AdSense does not auto-resize ads, so if you serve more than one ad size on your site you need to upload alternate ads in each format.

Create a new blank webpage for each of your replacement ads. No title or meta information is necessary on these pages, just a small amount of HTML code.

Place on this page either the ad code from an affiliate program (such as a banner from Commission Junction or PSAs from another charity) or create an image ad that promotes your products and link it to your own site’s pages.

Save this new alternate ad page with a file name you will remember, such as alt_ad.html. You may want to include the actual ad size in the filename if you have multiple alternate ads planned (for example, using alt_ad_468×60.html).

Once your new ad page is correctly named and formatted, upload it to your site. Make a note of the full URL, such as…

http://www.example.com/alt_ad_468×60.html

Add a robots.txt exclusion or a noindex meta tag on these ad pages to ensure that Google doesn’t mistakenly index them. Either method will work.

Once you have uploaded your new AdSense alternate ads, login to your AdSense account and click AdSense Setup and select AdSense for Content.

Choose your ad type, format, and colors.

Scroll down to the Alternate Ad or Color section. To provide an alternate ad, select Show ads from another URL and enter the URL of the page containing your ad.

If you’d prefer to just provide a solid block of color in that ad space, select Fill space with a solid color, then select an HTML color code. You can also cause the ad space to disappear completely using a collapsing ad unit.

The point here is to always show revenue-generating ads, so we’d avoid the color blocks and collapsing ad units. It’s always better to show actual ads instead.

Click Continue.

Copy and paste the ad code onto your site’s pages.

To view the Google help section dealing with this issue, see How do I implement an alternate ad?

Defining your own alternate ads guarantees that a revenue-generating ad always appears on your site, thereby maximizing your site’s income potential. If you’re monetizing your site with AdSense, we highly recommend setting up your own alternate ads.

This approach also allows you to begin experimenting with new ways of making money with your site. You may find that affiliate ads are more profitable and less intrusive than AdSense.

Though still on its testing phase, this program looks promising.

The sole purpose of it is to be a complete package for managing advertising on your site—including selling, scheduling, delivering and measuring ad inventory. While many small sites personally manage the ads they display, you can reach a point where that becomes difficult to track and optimize. So this tool just does that, any ad inventory you have can be managed with this program, you’re only not restricted just to AdSense coz you think it’s a tool made by Google…Pretty neat huh?..and why should you love this tool more?…It’s FREE!

I had read in an article that Google returns different search results for queries based on whether the keyword phrase is keyed in upper-case or lower-case letters. How true is this you say? Should we actually think of considering to optimize for these variations if our site appear in one and not the other? I personally decided to find out for myself.

I fired up Mozilla and I tried keying in “DOGS” on one tab and “dogs” on the other. Here are the results I got.

The lower-case query “dogs” displays pets4you.com on the 5th position.

On the other hand, with the upper-case query “DOGS”, it showed a slight change on the search results. It has greatdogsite.com on the 5th position and moves pet4you.com on the 6th place.

Yes it’s not a major difference, but it is something to be looked into coz from what I read from Google web search help center, it specifically states that their searches are not case sensitive.

This comes to conclude if capitalization on the page affects how a page ranks for capitalized queries. Is this something need to be fix, a “loophole” of some sort where one can exploit on the SEO front? I’m keeping my eyes on it.

Content is key alright, but here is another cliché running across the internet - create great, relevant content and your site will flourish! Sounds good, yeah, but how to create this great content you say? And to make it even worse, no one even tells you what this content is, or what it’s supposed to be about.

Well that’s about to change. From an article I read a few days ago by Esoos Bobnar, it sure shed some light on time-tested strategies and insider tips that are use to quickly and easily create content that other sites are happy to link to.

Follow these examples and your site will be pulling in tons of links in no time.

Top on the magical recipe of linkbaiting are Lists.

It’s actually the “The Grand-Daddy of All Linkbait”.

Lists are one of the easiest and most effective ways to grab an audience and build links. In fact, lists are so popular there’s concern they may soon become played out on some social media sites. Therefore, we suggest you try something a bit more interesting and unusual to help your content stand out from the crowd.

One good possibility is to replace the old tried-and-true Top 10 list, with a more unusual number. For example…

8 most important things to remember before leaving your house

20 fitness truths to get that body you always desired

42 ways on how not to run a pageant

See what I mean?…Try to be wacky in order to make it catchy.

Now, just a warning for really lazy, stupid people. It does not mean that we should just go “gaga” about copying and pasting all the link-worthy articles we see when we do our research and bookmark it into social media sites. Remember, doing so would be plagiarism as well as a copyright violation and it would damage your reputation which really makes it a big NO NO! So spare yourself from all the trouble. If writing is not your specialty, consider hiring then. Your mission here is to provide great content that’s going to attract traffic and links to your site.

There are a lot of sources when outsourcing article creation for sites you’re managing. A few are Problogger Job Boards, Rent A Coder and Craigslist.

That’s sure beats the heck out of begging for links via email, and it’s great to sit back and enjoy as you watch those inbound links accumulate on their own viral momentum.

There is indeed power in open social networks and social applications(widgets), and Facebook, that was founded in 2004 as a social site for students at Harvard University, spread quickly to other colleges and eventually into work places. The Silicon Valley company, in terms of unique visitors per day, is causing MySpace to really think about their current traffic. Facebook has already eclipsed MySpace based on the chart below.

I personally prefer Facebook rather than MySpace. The fact that they ought to add privacy controls and plans chat feature for their users on an article I read, it is no doubt that Facebook is way better than MySpace. It sure shows that they are to preserve social distinctions between friends, family and co-workers online.

Use of Facebook has exploded fivefold over the past year and a half. Two-thirds of its users are now located outside the United States compared with about 10 percent 18 months ago, when most members were student age and in the United States.

MySpace has to think of something now.

Australia is considered to be the world’s smallest continent and is located at the southern hemisphere of the globe. Its 7,617,930 square kilometers (2,941,299 sq. mi) landmass gives you an idea that you really need to learn the basics first before hitting the road.

If you haven’t been there before, driving in a foreign place for the first time (especially in the outback) would mean a having extra preparations and you must follow road safety and traffic guide for uncertain possibilities could get you else where. You expect long hours facing an outstretched road (boring it may seem but it does go for miles). You encounter big heavy trucks out of no where (and you can’t mess up with them). You may find that there are no opportunities to re-fuel in the next kilometers or even the chance of having refreshments…

Not to mention that any travel across designated Aboriginal Land will require permission from the owners beforehand. As the permit process varies from state to state (and can take up to six weeks to obtain). The most important thing then that you should remember should you go off road is to seek local advice on your intended route as well as ensuring that someone locally knows of your travel plans. If your vehicle does break down in a remote area stay with it do not attempt to walk. Generally people who stay with their vehicles are located quickly and easily. It is best to contact the national parks’ controlling body in each state prior to your journey. It is a legal requirement that any gates opened to allow your vehicle to pass through are closed afterwards.

Also prepare other things like looking for hotels where you can stay for the night. Hotels in Australia are known for its reasonable price, ranging from 1-star to the elegant 5-star hotels. Most Australians live on the coast. You might want to stay in Gold Coast Hotels to give you the perfect view of the city at night having that scenery of people making the most of the moment. Noosa Hotels, Cairns Hotels and Sydney Accommodation offer you a lot of options to choose from that promises an equally executive quality service.

Once you get all things set up you’re ready to go and find yourself in for an experience you would savor for a lifetime.

Although this might sound a little similar with the “space elevator project” which had a lofty goal, Google Inc. has agreed to build an undersea cable with five telecoms operators that will link the United States to Japan, and provide the capacity to sustain a surge in Internet traffic between the continents.

Quoted:
” Google and the five telecoms companies said in joint statement that the 10,000 km (6,200 mile) undersea fiber optic cable, connecting the United States to Japan, will cost $300 million.

The Unity cable system allows the members of the consortium to provide the increased capacity needed as more applications and services migrate online,” said Jayne Stowell, a spokesman for the consortium.”

Now, this kind of technology have been here for over a hundred of years, and that is called the “Transatlantic telegraph cable”. The transatlantic cable bridged North America and Europe, and expedited communication between the two. Whereas it would normally take at least ten days to deliver a message by ship, it now took a matter of minutes by telegraph. Nothing really new though for Google, but as one of the forum members reacted on the thread I read, notice how all the partners are not US telcos. What is actually Google saying?..Hmmm…I feel this is going to be nasty..write a comment regarding your take on this.:D
