There were 17 schools who were up for the challenge and the participating schools were: Ampayon, Agusan del Norte:Northern Mindanao State Institute of Science & Technology; Claveria, Misamis Oriental:Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture & Technology; Cagayan de Oro City:Capitol University, Informatics Computer Institute, Liceo de Cagayan University, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan; Davao City: University of Immaculate Conception; Iligan City: Iligan Computer Institute; Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, St. Peter’s College; Malaybalay City: Bukidnon State University; Ozamiz City: La Salle University, Misamis University; Valencia City: AMA Computer Learning Center; Zamboanga City: Ateneo de Zamboanga University.

On the final round only 5 schools passed the preliminary and semi-final rounds to compete for the champion, 1st and 2nd places. It was indeed a nerve-wracking round for the students since it was a right minus wrong portion. They were pretty tense about it, knowing they could get a wrong answer and get deducted from their points.

And so the event came to an end, there was a new champion, Ateneo de Zamboanga!. 1st place was MSU-IIT and UIC came on 2nd.

I have worked for ABS-CBN for almost 4 years now, since i finished my MA on mass com – broadcast communication in 2003. as part of production on news and current affairs, my work has been mostly rewarding, with good benefits despite the low base pay (i’m including this part so you would understand why i accepted the offer to be transferred to conceptualization of some reality shows particularly the current one, PBB.) because of the sensitivity of my status (i am still working there) i cannot divulge my name, gender and current position in ABS CBN. still, i would like to inform those who are interested (who, most probably, are now wondering why Wendy Valdez is still inside the house and not evicted yet, as most must have assumed.)When i was asked if i wanted to be part of the conceptualization of the current and upcoming reality shows that ABS-CBN would be showing (with higher compensation, obviously), i accepted the offer. how bad can it get, i said, since most of these shows run on public voting and my job would mostly include thinking of the “challenges” that Kuya instructs the housemates to do.Apparently, conceptualization incorporates more than that. as i have known after the pre-screening of the auditioners, as early as the application process, we have to note who we think will “attract the public most” and who we think will “make the ratings go off the roof.” after the initial screening, we had to choose the top 100 of the batch, and even though some did not “theoretically pass” the audition (some weren’t able to complete the documents needed), since they have mass appeal, they made it to the first cut, and some were even included in the finalists that entered the BB house.
As you all know, the eviction process is supposed to be based on the votes that the “nominated housemates” – the housemate with the lowest vote will be evicted. i dont know about the previous editions of the PBB (since i only worked under this series this season), but what surprised us the most was when we were informed that the voting only affects the decision minimally – that the voting actually shows who the public wants to see again the following day – but that was it. the truth is, there are so-called “talent auditors.” these people are the ones who really put the big decision as to who will be evicted, and who will stay. of course, this never became obvious since i cannot deny the fact that we receive millions of votes during eviction night. that is, until wendy was evicted, and then later returned to join the housemates who are legitimately still in the contest. and the reason is this: the wendy-bruce loveteam is working. have you ever noticed why most of the episodes are focused on the wendy-bruce loveteam? it is because ratings are really high, meaning that people want to see how their relationship develops.I have never received this much question about my work before. my friends want to know how someone who was already evicted be suddenly returned to the house. actually, that is one of the “twists” that are really planned to be included in the show. but there are actually 3 evicted housemates that were vying to be returned to the house, and wendy was one of them. we were asked who we think should be the one to return to the house, and zeke won. but after discussing that the wendy-bruce love team was too interesting to abruptly end, it was wendy who got the spot. aside from that, we were later informed by one of the production managers who was disappointed with the decision, wendy was “direk dyogi’s pet.”I told this story to some of my friends, and they were surprised to know the truth, particularly because some of them were voting for their favorite contestant. i told them only one thing – that they are just wasting their money in voting. as i have personally seen, the path of the contest is already drawn, and the voting only affects the decision minimally, as i have said. this only tells us who the public wants to see again inside the house. the eviction of nel tonight is the classic example. nel got the 2nd lowest number of votes, wendy got the lowest. but the administrators think that perhaps the wendy-bruce loveteam is still up, so we had to give it one last shot. if the ratings go down, or if on tuesday (the next eviction night), wendy still gets the lowest vote, she’s out of the contest.

This is the WRONG method of cooking the instant noodles.

By doing this, when we actually boil the ingredients in the powder, normally with MSG, it will change the molecular structures of the MSG causing it to be toxic.

The other thing that you may or may not realized is that, the noodles are coated with wax and it will take around 4 to 5 days for the body to excrete the wax after you have taken the noodles.

CORRECT method , which you may or may not know, is to cook the noodles this way :

1. boil the noodles in a pot with water.
2. once the noodles is cooked, take out the noodles, and throw away the water which contains wax.
3. boil another pot of water till boiling and put the noodles into the hot boiling water and then shut the fire.
4. only at this stage when the fire is off, and while the water is very hot, put the ingredient with the powder into the water, to make noodle soup.
5. however, if you need dry noodles, take out the noodles and add the ingredient with the powder and toss it to get dry noodles.

 I have seen the video keynote address of the Apple CEO Steve Jobs introducing the iPhone and mann I just can’t wait to get my hands on that thing. It makes me crave for it…The moment that thing goes out here in the Philippines, I’m dumping my O2 right away and sure get an iPhone….Imagine an iPod, a revolutionary phone and a breakthrough internet device in one! and you could choose from a 4GB to a 8GB model…How good can it get?!…

I got my eyes on this one already…although I’m still a little bit skeptical of its abilities,  I must say I would only truly agree with Apple that they have indeed reinvented mobile technology when I have personally have my hands on their iPhone….but so far, the had me at scrolling too….\m/^_^\m/

It was held at SM carpark at Xavier Heights, started around 10am and was over the next morning.

I’m sure that all of  people who walked in to this gig envy the owners of the cool rides displayed. Imagine a car and a bike like below…who would not want it?! 

And of course, to top this event, there was GASOLINA(local CDO band), who pumped up the crowd with their stylish music. It was raining alright, but nothing’s gonna stop this party!…

I’ve heard that the famous HOTWIRE guys of Studio 23 was there to check out the event. They were into car shows and parties, and sure didn’t missed this one. I just wonder when will they air this event on their show. Well, I hope CDOKAY would produce an event like this next time.\m/^_^

I wasn’t able to to meet the girls on the day of their arrival but I was able to go the next day, on their SWIMSUIT competition(grins). The swimsuit competition of Hiyas ng Mindanao was held at Pryce Plaze hotel. The girls was doing their “blocking” when me and jeedo arrived.

I sure enjoyed it, especially the one who took the video, jeedo! He sure have seen a lot of “revelations” as he was busy recording the event.LOL

I was able to get a picture with the davao girls in their swimsuit too. (from left) Karen Joyce Peñanueva, Aileen Cainglet and Toni Michelle Su. HOT!HOT!HOT!

And after all the catwalk the girls made, the beautiful Ms. Kathrina Manansala, representative of CDO, got the title of Best in Swimsuit. Stunning beauty I must say…

The next day, the cultural and talent night was held at the provincial grounds of the CITY CAPITOL, it started late but it was worth it. I’ve seen the girls on their ethnic costume and mann they were all beautiful. Here is a couple of pictures I’ve taken while the girls were in action.

And after two hours of talent presentations, the proclaimed hiyas ng mindanao best in talent was Miss Kristine Grace Maambong. She did a “kulintang” presentation and the crowd was just amazed on how she did it.

The girls were also kind enough to allow us to take some pictures of them at the backdrop of the stage.

The next day, Rey(Director of Hiyas ng Mindanao Pageant) texted me that the girls were at Tagbuan Grill having their dinner. I did not hesitated a second and scoot right away to the place. I was able to dine with the girls while Tagbuan Grill waiters served their sumptous meals.

I also had the chance to get a picture with the Hiyas ng Mindanao 2006 reigning queen and the Miss Hiyas 1st runner up.

Finally, the day the girls were all waiting for, pageant day. It was held at the Atrium, Limketkai Mall. This was a battle for them and they sure geared up with their stunning costumes and elegant dresses that night.  Although the place was not jampacked as expected, the supporters of the each of the candidate were around to give encouragement. I was sitting on same row where the 11 judges were and I must say, I feel tense for the girls. It was a 3 hour event for the ladies to showcase their beauty and talent, and as the judges screened them up to the 7 semi-finalist where they showed the paintings they did, it was evident for the judges that only 3 candidates stood out.

The final question was raised and the final 3 candidates did their best on how to answer it. The crowd was very eager to know who the judges voted as the Hiyas ng Mindanao.

And so it was proclaimed…Miss Kathrina Manansala of Cagayan de Oro was crowned as the Hiyas ng Mindanao Pilipinas.

This pageant indeed was a great one and for me, all of the 11 candidates are winners. I hope our government would continue their support on this kind of events as to realize the true potential of our beautiful filipinas. For the candidates, I had a great experience with you and I salute you. I wish you all the best in life and that you may continue on proving to the world what a filipina can do.  Congratulations to the 11 candidates of Hiyas ng Mindanao!\m/^_^\m/
