Better late than never! A Tropical Merry Christmas to you all!

The Gear Up: Cagayan de Oro initiated by the Philippine Windows Users Group was a success. A lot of IT professionals had attended this event from as far as Camiguin, Malaybalay and Valencia Bukidnon. There was also a representative of Microsoft straight from Singapore who came, she is Maria Green, a technology evangelist.

IT Professionals

The PHIWUG guys were excited to give away freebies, and I’m talking about Windows Vista Ultimate Edition that is actually worth Php26k. One hell of a freebie huh?!…Aside from that, they gave away Microsoft jackets as well, Microsoft books for Windows and would you believe theres a Microsoft personal care kit(Microsoft Powerpoint shampoo, Microsoft Word body wash..yada yada…weird I know…anyways, congratulations to those who got the freebies…)

Had also the chance to bond with one of the PHIWUG guys, Keen Robante, a very friendly dude and is originally from Mindanao. We played DOTA early in the morning and showed what us, Kagayanons, got when it comes to this kind of game.

All in all, we had a blast. The event was successful although experienced a couple of minor problems, but we all pulled it right at the end. We would like to thank all who participated on this event and don’t forget to sign up online to officially become a member of PHIWUG. We plan to kicked out another event on April next year, so watch out for that.

Check out more pictures here.

OK so this was my first time in Davao and I made sure that I would document all of what we did there, the places we went to and the food we ate. This was 72 hours of “offline” life and it was worth it. 6 hours travel time and end result…Davao was great! and to prove it here are some pics from the time we were travelling on the way to davao and going back to CDO…

Text-link-ads, evil???As part of my daily routine, I am to log in on one of my seo forums online…and I have read a post that actually made my eye brows meet…It was about the event WordCamp 2007, and one of the members in the forum, actually had the chance to participate on that event. This was Rickey of www.rickey.org, I’m assuming he’s a filipino too just like me. As I was reading his article , he mentioned there that he met up with Matt Cutts, but what really got me suprised was Matt telling him that Text-Link-Ads are evil and one of these days Google will penalize such sites which engage in Page Rank link buying and selling.

Wtf? That was my initial reaction…although I am really not earning that much from TLA, but penalizing them, why?…how true is this?….If Google’s gonna do that, a lot of other websites would be affected coz I know a lot of websites that deals with link buying and selling, not to mention that I got some friends working with these companies.

Is this how Google react with their competitors on the internet marketing industry or should I say this is how Google react to a possible threat to them for success? If this gonna happen, I’m expecting a massive revolt about the issue. What you think guys?
