Conversion is defined as the process of taking your site’s visitor to the higher level – that of becoming your next customer.

The “keyword approach” is actually simple yet crafty. It is the skill of choosing keywords that will entice your reader to take immediate action, at the same time keeping abreast with top ranking in the search engine, follows a workable guideline.

1. Use a common language.Establish the profile of your most likely customers. Speak their language. Put yourself in their shoes and ask yourself the possible keywords that they will use during their search. Don’t use terminologies that are not in-tune with their line of thinking.   You don’t want to be confused for something you are not, right? Same is true with your product or service. Choose keywords that are relevant to your type of industry. And yes, keep it short and simple. Your online-customer will most likely scan, not read. The first three minutes is crucial. You should captivate them right then and there.

2. Select keywords based on their potential to bring-in quality traffic to your site.Is it quantity or quality? Find out which keywords you will use to optimize your page if you want the search engine to deliver to your site lots of traffic but give premium on quality, too.  Quality traffic is what you want to convert as potential customers. What are the keywords applicable today, to your type of industry which your target quality prospects may use in looking for a site? Most search engines have keyword suggestions – look them up.

3. What is the reason for the search?Test your keywords against the probable reasons why search is being done. Synchronize your keywords with these reasons. For example, the keyword “conversion” will flood you with metric, weight, even currency conversion search results! Find out the most likely set of keywords a customer uses when he searches for “conversion,” so that it will produce results that are relevant to site owners wanting to create potential customers from the traffic they get. Optimize your site with these keywords and phrases.

4. Optimize for conversion. What exactly are the keywords that will increase traffic conversion? Select those that inspire action – now.

In summary, the keyword approach to conversion is very simple. It’s only about finding the right words that are directly relevant to what your probable customers are looking for.

Yes, you read that right!..The top pinoy foodchain in the Philippines, major competitor of McDonald’s, has a so called “scandal”. I don’t know what the guys from Jollibee were thinking to produce this kind of embarassment.

They seem not satisfied from the fact that their official website is claimed doing blackhat techniques, they wanted more than that kind of publicity. Well, every company has its own problems, and this one is a major one! To think that every child loves “jollibee”, a child-friendly mascot, a good emblem to always stay young, but it just proves that jollibee is suffering sexual frustration, from wordly things that gives temporary pleasure. Jollibee’s darkest secret unfold.. I warn the audience 18 years below not to watch this video, you might get offended.

They sure know how to live with their tagline “Bida ang saya”…..\m/^_^\m/

Every once in a while, you look at your own personal website and ask yourself, how could I change my website? Update it, tweak it up, trick it out? Sure, you’ve got compliant CSS, a complement of Flash movies, streaming soundtrack, hand-crafted HTML, and lots of Jeff Buckley content (okay, let’s say you run a tribute site). Unfortunately, like cars, websites just get boring to look at after a while, and then it’s time for a makeover.

You may have other reasons to change your website. Big companies with heavily-visited websites regularly change their websites (sometimes once a year) for the purpose of improving its search rankings and SEO. Whatever the reason is, here are some tips that could be useful when giving your little corner of the WWW a facelift.

1.       Try to keep the old URLs of all your pages. Don’t forget that search engines aren’t the only visitors of your site. Other people may have bookmarked your site in their browsers. Other websites may have links to your site’s pages (very important for SEO!), or articles in weblogs and other web journals may have your URLs. If you change URLs from right under these other places, chances are people would come up with a 404 error (“Page Not Found”) when typing in your old URLs. A good rule of thumb would be keep the old URLs, even if you totally revamp your pages. Changing the directory structure might also be problematic, so it might be best to stick to your old directory structure. Alternatively, if you’re forced to rename URLs, you can use HTTP 301 redirects that direct traffic from your old URL to your new one.

2.       Create a new site map for your site. Your new site may throw off visitors for a while at the start. This is really standard practice, but if you haven’t created a site map already, it would be a good idea to create one along with your new site. The site map would make it easier for visitors and search engines to find pages and information on your site. An XML site map won’t hurt either.

3.      Take note of your current site’s rankings. Remember that even the most minor of changes to the page title, or making extensive changes to the body text or content, or, even worse, failing to implement HTTP 301 redirects for renamed pages, will change the rankings of your site’s pages for the worse. If possible, avoid making large-scale modifications and try to keep the page titles as they are.

4.       It won’t hurt to have your newly updated website evaluated by SEO people.

When the time comes to give your website a fresh, new look, keeping these tips in mind would help to ensure your site retains its visitors and ranking.

One of the most important considerations, commodities, if you will, of SEO is links.

Links

links

links.

The more links to your site, the better. This idea figures prominently in SEO because incoming links to a site determine a site’s PageRank. And that, boys and girls, is where it’s all at.

In the past, webmasters used to explicitly request other webmasters to link to their site, on the premise that they (the former) would link to their (the latter’s) site – a simple exchange of links. Usually this is done by webmasters who are interested in a particular website that is similar to theirs. And we all know that two related sites linked to each other help both sites’ relevance and ranking. This practice of exchange links is known as reciprocal linking.

When search engine optimization grew into the industry it is today, reciprocal linking became an important technique for webmasters to use when building links to their site. It’s very useful for leading a targeted audience from one site to another (related or similar) site and it sometimes gives web surfers additional content to browse that wouldn’t be easily found via search engines. Today, it is one of the oldest site promotion techniques; reciprocal linking led to the proliferation of the web ring.

Unfortunately, some unscrupulous webmasters and link-building companies gradually began to abuse the practice of reciprocal linking, by building sites that were actually link farms — pages upon pages of links with no useful content. Also, a practice called link begging became widespread, where automated spambots would send bulk email messages to webmasters “begging” for links to a site, which was often a spam-related site. These email messages were also spam because they were unsolicited. Then there’s the practice of accepting or requesting links from sites that are totally unrelated to a site.

All these undesirable things have given reciprocal link a bad rep. Some webmasters ignore email requests for link exchanges. Nonetheless, many webmasters and website owners accept and reciprocate links from sites that are irrelevant to their sites (hey, it’s a free way to increase ranking!). There are speculations from SEO experts that reciprocal links are losing their value for search engines. Some even go further to theorize that search engines actively penalize sites with too many reciprocal links. Of course, these are simply rumors at this point with no real evidence to back them up.

Some good rules-of-thumb to follow to keep you prepared for the future (because we can never tell when that comes!) include:

1.       Prioritize one-way links instead of reciprocal links.

2.       If you do go down the reciprocal link path, make sure the sites you reciprocate to are relevant to your site.

3.       Check up on your link partners to make sure their sites do not have negative effects on your own site’s ranking. Your link partner’s link page (with the link to your site) may be banned by search engines. These pages do not get indexed, so your site won’t benefit from having a link from them.

4.       Have your link partners use the appropriate keywords in their anchor text to your site.

5.       Ensure that incoming links from link partners point to relevant pages and not just your main page.

6.       Refuse links to your site that are merely redirected links.

Reciprocal linking can be a good and free way to improve your site’s ranking. The key is to ensure that these links are from relevant sites and use relevant keywords.

Alright so a lot of people, with the aim of getting the “Triple Jackpot prize” for the 2nd SEO Philippines contest diving in the SEO waters with their “panlaban” website on the top 10 SERPS of 3 major search engines. Would it be a former “isulong seoph” winner?? Let’s see where this contest will go. Since all hats are in, I beleive black hatters are now devising ‘diabolical’ strategies as to how to get their site show on the SERPS. As to a white hatter, clean and honest SEO is the key for winning this contest. Either way, whatever the processes involved to get your site to show on the SERPS, the important thing is what you have learned from the contest and you use it the next time around.

We will continue to monitor updates on this contest and I will be posting it here. May the best SEOer win! \m/^_^\m/
